  I would encourage you to look up all the reviews for The Montessori Center, both here and on Yelp. We attended back in 2013, and had a horrifying experience with the staff. The staff use physical restraint as a common discipline method for typical children (even though there are laws regarding the use of physical restraint.) Our daughter was also blocked into a closet by the teachers as a punishment. Which led to panic attacks before school (in a 4 year old) -and immediate withdrawal. They didn't know how to handle pretty typical outbursts form a 4 year old child, as the Head teacher (Ann) told me they didn't know how to work with my 4 year old daughter. Luckily we have found numerous other caring schools/classrooms and environments in the 3 years that followed and she is now flourishing socially and emotionally. While the name has changed, the staff, lead teachers and locations are all the same.

  The school has been all I had hoped for in a preschool (and kindergarten): peaceful, nurturing, compassionate and tons of learning materials to use. My older son has been quite happy there, and has done so many new things while having a lot of fun. His social skills had improved as well as his practical knowledge. He also spends a ton of time outside, which I particularly like (and he does too.) We will be sending our younger son there next year to attend school in the even more adorable cottage for two-year olds. As parents, we've also benefited from the methods used at the school in helping our children achieve milestones and goals at home. We love the Montessori approach and the way it is practiced at the Montessori Center. The overall community is very supportive and caring, with friendly parents and staff. As new residents of Austin, we are finding a wonderful network of friends both for us and our children.
